The future of work is a connected world where you can try jobs out before you pick a career, change careers, or start a new business empire— and it is being made possible by Bilyana Freye.

Bilyana is the Co-Founder and CEO of Hoppin, a curated marketplace for job shadowing experiences across companies and industries. In 2018, she was one of the pitch winners in the Uber x Girlboss competition for disruptive female-led businesses in the US and recently was funded by Founders Fund.

She talks with the A.Team about how happiness can build the business economy and why making fewer decisions in the morning help her navigate a busy day.

What if you woke up every day excited to go to work. What would that take? What does that look like? Is it even possible?

Bilyana believes it is, but it is about finding the right job that inspires you.

“I believe that you can't possibly know what job is right for you without experiencing it first,” she explains. That is why she is building the world's first platform for job shadowing, where you can try different industries and roles.

According to reports, you may not just have a case of the Mondays. The Conference Board, Job Satisfaction 2019 finds that almost half of U.S. workers are not satisfied with their employment. And, a recent Gallup poll found that only about 34 percent of workers feel actively engaged or connected to their workplace,

So your not alone if it's not a lack of coffee on your morning that is causing your moodiness. It's quite possibly your job.

But knowing what job makes you happy is difficult. Many people enter a career believing they are pursuing the right course only to be unfulfilled. That is where job shadowing can be instrumental.

“Imagine,” Bilyana says, “for the first time, you can sample five different industries in one week.” The opportunity Hoppin provides revolutionizes the job searching experience. By shadowing a different role for a day, a person is able to gauge exactly how they feel about the position and if it is the right fit. You can also shadow CEOs and business founders if you are looking to make a leap into the entrepreneurial world.

“This is really important,” Bilyana explains, “because when you do what you love, you have superpowers.” It is this mindset that lead her to cultivate Hoppin around a culture of workplace happiness. “If the whole world was waking up really excited and 100% aligned to their skills and passions, we could solve world peace in a month,” she jokes.

But, she is correct about the positive benefits of being happy at work. A decade of research proves that happiness raises nearly every business outcome.

Companies with engaged employees see sales rise by 37%, productivity goes up 31%, and accuracy on tasks up19. Not to mention improved health and quality of life.

Looking at the big picture, low morale costs businesses anywhere from $450 billion to $550 billion per year.

So for anyone that might be thinking about next steps and reinventing themselves or just branch into a different industry and learn from someone that far inspires them. Jump on Hoppin.

Q: Being you travel or are on-the-go often, what 3 items will we always find in your travel bag?

A: A good book, my laptop, and a 111skin face mask to hydrate and rejuvenate my skin after a long flight

Balancing life as an entrepreneur can be demanding. Bilyana tackles it all with impeccable and timeless style. She says, “from the moment I opened my eyes, I have to start making decisions,” and she says the mornings are particularly hectic. “I just want to jump into something that makes me feel good, that makes me feel comfortable, and I don't have to be distracted by the wrong fit or something that might not fit my style.”

And though we love her style, we also love her bold attitude and focus when it comes to pursuing her goals.

Sticking to your vision may be hard, but Bilyana says when it comes to your goals being laser-focused will produce the best results. “Find that loophole,” she says, “don't give up.” Most importantly, “if you're convinced that what you're doing is worth it and you're on a mission, you'll always find a way.”

This is especially relevant when you are starting a business. Bilyana says, “when you're an entrepreneur, you definitely hear ‘no’ a lot,” but she says “there will also be ten others that really see the passion in you and what are you building.” It is persistence that will get you to a yes. “You just keep going until you find your tribe, and you find the people that will support you.” Then she says, “when you find those people, go back to the person that told you no and try again until you can change it into a yes.”
